Sikhs driver free to wear turban in finland

LONDON, UK (October 1, 2013)—A Sikh Bus Driver in Finland, Sukhdarshan Singh Gill, who was struggling to wear his dastar at work, has won a landmark victory against his employer.

Veolia Transport of Vantaa Transport Company has agreed to allow  Sukhdarshan Singh to wear a turban at work from Sunday, September 29th. The Southern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency ruled in June that a turban ban by the employer was discriminatory and gave the bus company until the end of September to redress the matter.

“This is  a great victory of Sikhs  abroad without any contributions of Sikh Organizations in this case”, said Satnam Singh Chahal, Executive Director of North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) in a press release issued today.
